National Day Tea at Anti:dote

Assorted sweets. There was a National Day Afternoon Tea set, so we really tripped down here on National Day to try it. Turned out to be a bit of a scam, because I’m pretty sure they serve similar things on other days (when you actually have various credit card discounts available, which are not applicable on National Day)

The china they use. Quite fancy, but not what I would buy for my house.

Chilli crab foie gras bao – couldn’t taste the foie. Not that the bao was bad, but the pastry is more similar to the grey, elasticky bao pastry you find in PRC instead of the fluffy white pastry here/HK.

63 degree egg with truffle potato puree and crispy ratte – very good, although the entire thing was a little cold. Definitely better than the chilli crab bao option.

Clotted cream, kaya, and strawberry jam in the bottom drawer.

Spread on the scone – finally, a decent clotted cream! We seem to be able to get quite a lot of it here (compared to in the US), like it’s actually on grocery store shelves. Anyway we had to get more since the original serving was much too little.

Savoury drawer

Lobster roll – too tiny but all the elements were there 😛

Otah millefeuille – we liked this best! Very juicy, great otah flavour, although it wasn’t smoky enough. The pastry was good too.

Some kinda cheese tart

Smoked salmon with ikura and lemon cream cheese on rye – I didn’t like the rye. Other than that, good.

Abalone tart – Very good. There was a strong abalone flavour and it went surprisingly well with the buttery tart base.

Passionfruit curd in a cone – lovely. One of their more inspired desserts. They even have a clear acrylic base to hold the cones up.

Matcha roulade – forgettable

Okinawa purple potato choux – it was filled with a very light and delectable cream. Good use of Asian ingredients.

Earl Grey macaron, tackily stamped with some national day logo. Not bad.

Chocolate ganache sponge – my favourite. The ganache was very good and the sponge was springy and light.

Ondeh ondeh truffle

Ondeh ondeh truffle cross section – Z loved it. I don’t eat gula melaka so mine was donated to him.

Pineapple tart – so inventive! There was some ginger compote. It was very good.

Gula melaka tart – Z also liked this. They gave me a second chocolate fudge cremeux and macaron to make up for my dislike of gula melaka anything 😛 Good service!

The setting is pretty nice, and the food is definitely above average. We’ve been to other afternoon teas here and so far this has been the most impressive.
