We were here to use the unstoppable $15 off $40 vouchers 😛 They give them to us after every meal here – one for lunch and one for dinner. After about 3 months of repeatedly dining here about twice a month we managed to escape from their system 😛 The place was actually quite full! Of people using the $15 off $40 vouchers, which are easier to use at lunch with their dim sum offerings. Someone else at the host’s podium was told to wait 40 minutes for a table :S
Mini yam ring appetizer with scallop and minced chicken, topped with what looks like sea grapes. I really liked this! It was freshly fried and the filling was well-seasoned.
Yam ring cross section – you can see the filling glistening inside
Peanut xiao cai ($3.20 for both). The Tissue is $0.30/pax, and the tea is $2.80/pax, so the total TTP: $9.40. For people who are trying to play the $40 game 😛 The table next to use were noobs and had to check their bill repeatedly through the course of eating. It just feels damn shiok to spend exactly $40 on the nose (before tax and service) to get the greatest ratio of discount. Note to self: Reject tea and peanuts next time. I am partial to Canton Paradise’s braised peanuts and chestnuts, but am ambivalent toward the xiao cai here.
Shredded duck spring roll – Nice smoked duck flavour (better than the one at Full of Luck), but a little bit greasy; they could have blotted/drained the rolls better.
The filling felt too sweet this time and the tops were quite pale, rather different from those at Canton Paradise.
Teochew crystal dumplings – our new favourite!
Teochew crystal dumplings cut open – filled with crisp vegetables and peanuts (like a dumpling of the xiao cai). Their skin is very good – pliable, soft, not too thick.
Truffle dumpling – very strong truffle taste, but too similar otherwise to the Teochew dumpling. I recommend the Teochew dumpling over this.
